Why/How are Polar Bears going extinct?
The biggest reason that Polar Bear populations are decreasing is because of their habitat loss due to global warming.
The Polar Bear is threatened by extinction because of humans acting as if they are the only things living on Earth. Threatened because Polar Bears are actually not classified as an endangered species yet but they are on the watch list. "We are not worried about polar bears going extinct, but they are considered a threatened species, which means they could become extinct" (Derocher). Everyday the number of polar bears on the world is going down as is the reproduction rate of polar bears. The polar bears few habitats around the world are slowly decreasing leaving the polar bears with no where to den, mate, eat and care for their young. Every time we cause an oil spill we kill hundreds of animals among which are the polar bears and the animals that provide them food.
